Listening Practice 6
Short Answer Questions
In this practice exercise, we will focus on listening for specific information. Short answer questions are common across the 4 IELTS tests and, if you have completed other practice tests, you will already be familiar with this type of task.
In order to listen for the correct information in the audio recording, be sure to read through the questions first. Underline key words in the questions that will help you to find the correct information. For example, if the questions is asking: What time does …? I would underline the word ‘time’ as I this tells me to listen out for numbers in the listening text.
TOP TIP: You must still listen out for the context of the information in the listening text. For example, if I had underlined the word ‘time’ and was listening out for numbers in a text, and someone said it took 10 minutes to walk home, I don’t want to make the mistake of writing down 10 o’clock – just because I heard a number!
